Independent developer 5 Fortress is officially launching STRIDEN on Steam Early Access today, introducing a bold new twist on the team-based survival shooter genre. Combining looter shooter chaos, tactical squad play, and unpredictable wilderness encounters, this game is designed to deliver something completely fresh and just a little unhinged.
Described by its creators as possibly the world’s first round-based team-based survival shooter, it blends elements from multiple genres to offer something unpredictable and highly replayable.
At its core, the game provides a fast-paced, round-based action. There are no safe zones, no scripted paths, and no second chances. Players must loot, fight, and survive alongside their teammates. All while navigating harsh Nordic terrain. The cool part is that players can even take control of furious wild animals to gain the upper hand. Whether you’re riding a moose into enemy lines or ambushing foes as a feral predator, STRIDEN encourages creativity in combat.
According to the developers, the game strips away the grind often found in looter shooters. However, the best parts remain intact: the tension, the risk, and the thrill of just one more match. Progression still matters, but every round feels like its own wild story, shaped by quick thinking and chaotic choices. Development was heavily influenced by community feedback. Playtesters helped shape the game’s combat systems, pacing, and overall balance. “
It has been an intense, fun, and challenging journey to complete the best version we can manage of what we and the players want,” said Johan Sundqvist, Creative Director at 5 Fortress. “Now we’re really looking forward to the Early Access release, which marks the beginning of building STRIDEN into the complete vision that we share.”
The game will be available on PC via Steam Early Access. The standard price is $24.99; however, there will be a 20% discount during its launch week.
