Following the record-breaking opening weekend for “A Minecraft Movie” and the success of Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” a new slate of blockbusters and indie films are hoping to drum up excitement in April about what 2025 has to offer in the cinema landscape.
Starting with the weekend’s wide releases, “The Accountant 2” marks the return of Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff to the big screen, who is enlisted to help solve the murder of the Treasury chief. Gavin O’Connor returns to direct a script from “Ozark” creator and writer Bill Dubuque, with a cast including Jon Bernthal, J.K. Simmons and Daniella Pineda.
“The Legend of Ochi,” which is distributed by A24, is an original fairy tale that follows a young girl (Helena Zengel) who ventures out into the dark with forest creatures known as the ochi. The cast includes Willem Dafoe, Finn Wolfhard and Emily Watson, with Isaiah Saxon making his feature directorial debut. Additionally, the 20th anniversary edition of “Revenge of the Sith” brings the “Star Wars” prequel back to the big screen as “The Empire Strikes Back” opens the TCM Classic Film Festival.
