Kansas police are asking for additional charges against an elementary school teacher already charged earlier this month with sexually assaulting two students.
The Lawrence Police Department said earlier this month it had arrested Mark Elliott Gridley, a 60-year-old speech and language pathologist at Prairie Park Elementary School, after a parent of one of the students contact them about incidents during a school day.
Investigators uncovered evidence that led to Gridley’s arrest on charges of aggravated indecent liberties and kidnapping. On Thursday, they said they had now a total of eight victims, ranging in age from 6 to 11 years old, in incidents that took place February 6 and 7.
KAKE called Gridley a “former” teacher but provided no information about how or when he was terminated. KHSB said the school district said in a statement Gridley had been “relieved of duties” in the wake of the charges.
Gridley had worked as a speech pathologist at the school since August 2021, the station said.
