Lagos Aesthetic Clinic Accused of Botched Skincare Treatment and Threatening Victim with Legal Action

A Nigerian woman, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @iamthelma_, has gone public with distressing allegations against Hello Perfect Aesthetic & Laser Clinic in Lagos. According to her viral thread, a skincare treatment meant to heal her acne-prone skin allegedly left her with a permanent scar and deep emotional trauma.
Thelma recounted that she contacted the clinic in August 2023 after seeing its promotional posts online. She paid ₦30,000 for a virtual consultation, during which she received what she described as a disorganized treatment plan combining both facial acne and underarm depigmentation procedures.
Despite noticing red flags early, she proceeded with treatments in Abuja and Lagos. During her second session in October, she was introduced to laser resurfacing—a procedure the clinic allegedly promised would yield flawless results in three weeks. However, Thelma claims she was not informed that an essential depigmentation process was required post-laser, which was crucial to proper healing.
She went on to describe a burning sensation during the procedure, which staff dismissed as normal. More concerning, she alleges the clinic substituted her prescribed 4% hydroquinone with a much stronger 10% concentration due to stock issues, without consulting her or explaining the risks.
Following the treatment, Thelma shared photos with the clinic, only to be told days later that another depigmentation session would be needed months later. She expressed feeling blindsided, particularly as the clinic posted videos of her procedure online without her consent or checking in on her recovery.
By January, she terminated further appointments due to a loss of trust, citing the clinic’s lack of empathy or accountability. Her ordeal resurfaced in April 2025 when she shared a TikTok video about her experience. The clinic reportedly contacted her for a “virtual review” that she described as more of an interrogation than a support session.
She says the CEO attempted to justify their practices during the call and dismissed her concerns about the hydroquinone dosage. After involving her lawyer, Thelma claims the clinic responded not with empathy, but with a legal threat—warning her of potential imprisonment if she spoke out publicly.
Now, she’s breaking her silence.
“This scar is not just physical—it’s emotional and it’s public,” she wrote. “They hurt me. They tried to silence me. But I’m speaking now, not just for myself, but for anyone else they may have failed.”
Thelma’s post has sparked conversations about medical ethics, accountability in Nigeria’s cosmetic industry, and patient rights. She is encouraging others who’ve had similar experiences to share their stories and demand better standards.
Her post ends with a powerful message:
“My voice will be louder than any lawyer trying to bury it.”
