It’s official: “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie is now a bestselling author, thanks to the release of her new children’s book titled, “Mostly What God Does Is Love You.”
Released on February 25, Guthrie’s faith-based kids book quickly topped the New York Times bestsellers list as well as Amazon’s children’s book charts (where it’s still number one as of this writing).
From publisher Zonderkidz, the 32-page picture book “showcases the wonders of nature, the beauty of God’s creation, and most importantly, how very loved you are by God,” per a description online. Guthrie’s easy-to-read text is accompanied by full-color pictures from illustrator Morgan Huff.
Guthrie says she wanted to write an uplifting book that could remind children of “how very cherished they are.” In turn, she says she hopes young readers can then “share that same love by being kind and compassionate to others.”
In an interview with her daughter Vale, Guthrie also shares about the importance of prayer, telling Vale that she learned to pray and “talk to God” at a young age. At first, Guthrie says she prayed for things like good grades at school to specific presents for the holidays. But she reveals that she soon used her prayer time to confess her fears and worries. As she imparts to Vale, she hopes her children will also carry God with them all their lives. “Even when [I had] times where I felt alone,” Guthrie says, “I could always call God.”
The book is a follow-up to the TV host’s 2024 book of essays, titled, “Mostly What God Does.” Designed as an adult companion book to the new children’s release, the 320-pager features essays and musings on love, hope, gratitude and purpose. As the publisher notes read, the book shares “hard-won wisdom forged from mountaintop triumphs, crushing failures, and even the mundane moments of day-to-day living.” The goal: “to inspire you to venture down a path of faith that is authentic, hopeful, destiny-shaping, and ultimately life-changing.”
Guthrie has also released two other children’s books: “Princesses Wear Pants” and “Princesses Save the World.” You can shop those titles here.
Guthrie is currently the co-anchor of The Today Show, alongside Craig Melvin, who replaced Hoda Kotb, after the latter announced that she was stepping down to spend more time with her daughters.
