Independent Swedish studio Decemberborn Interactive has unveiled Cathedral: Crow’s Curse, a standalone prequel to the acclaimed Cathedral. Launching on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam, this new entry invites players back into a reimagined version of the Cathedral universe. However, it is now enhanced with detailed pixel art, dynamic lighting, and fluid animations. You can check out the official announcement trailer below to get a glimpse of the adventure ahead.
Set before the events of the original game, Crow’s Curse follows Crow, a skilled Shade Sentinel who first appeared as an NPC. With the balance of the Shade Forest beginning to fall apart, Crow sets out on a perilous journey through cursed woods and ancient ruins. Along the way, players will uncover the hidden history of the Shade Sentinels. As well as face the dark curse threatening their world.
Combat in Crow’s Curse focuses on precision and skill. Players will need to read enemy patterns, dodge, block, parry, and land well-timed attacks. Stealth also plays a key role, allowing players to ambush enemies or slip past danger entirely to gain the upper hand.
The world itself blends familiar locations from the Cathedral with expansive new zones, now more open and interconnected. Moving away from the original game’s 8-bit NES style, Crow’s Curse delivers a refined visual experience. It features smoother animations and a more responsive combat feel, promising a deeper and more immersive adventure for fans and newcomers alike.
