Certain franchises won’t see a reboot, certainly as long as the creators are still alive.
One of those is famously “Back to the Future” with both writer/director Robert Zemeckis and writer/producer Bob Gale having commented about being strongly against any such plans.
Another to add to that mix is filmmaker Chris Columbus’ “Home Alone”. Columbus directed both the original two theatrical releases, which were penned by John Hughes.
Speaking with ET Online at the premiere of “The Thursday Murder Club” recently, he was asked about the possibility of either a reboot or legacy sequel, to which he said:
“I think Home Alone really exists as, not at this timepiece, but it was this very special moment, and you can’t really recapture that. I think it’s a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.”
The original film’s star, Macaulay Culkin, reportedly teased fans about being open to reprise his role as Kevin McCallister back in December last year.
Four further films in the series were made with other child actors taking the lead.
