Rei Pictures, one of Argentina’s most international-facing production companies is launching a major international expansion that includes new offices in Spain and Mexico and a push into TV, talent management and production services.
Formerly known as Rei Cine, Rei Pictures, which is behind Lucrecia Martel’s Venice world premiere “Landmarks” (“Nuestra tierra”) and Martel’s historical drama “Zama,” also produced 2024 Venice competition entry “Kill the Jockey,” Cannes winner “The Settlers” and Sundance-prized “Queen of Fear.”
Company is a co-producer on Amalia Ulman’s culture clash comedy “Magic Farm,” starring Chloe Sevigny and Alex Wolff, which now streams on Mubi.

To fuel its expansion, Rei has partnered with major commercials company Primo Content, which has outposts in Argentina, Brazil, México, Spain, Colombia, Uruguay and the U.S. Primo produced Gastón Solnicki’s “The Souffleur,” playing like “Landmarks” out of competition in Venice this year. Primo also backed Cannes winner “The Secret Agent” by Mendonça Filho and Ira Sachs’ “Peter Hujar’s Day,” among others.
Long in the making, even before Javier Milei’s government in Argentina slashed film incentives, geographic and sectorial diversification represents a turning point for Rei Pictures, aligning with a broader shift in the entertainment landscape across Latin America.
Volatility in public sector support systems in the region makes it difficult for companies to fuel multi-title co-production, Rei Pictures’ core production strategy, while depending on just one country.
The partnership with Primo enables the company to leverage its solid track record while extending its reach into Mexico and the comparatively incentive-rich Spain. With its operations ramped up, Rei Pictures is now set to boost the development and production of original series, grow its talent management division and provide full-scale production services for international projects filming in Latin America and Spain.
The new move positions Rei Pictures as a one-stop creative and production powerhouse, equipped to collaborate with talent and deliver content across diverse formats. Its newly established offices in Madrid and Mexico City will act as strategic bases for global operations and foster partnerships with creatives and companies throughout Europe and the Americas. Rei Pictures has already established a rich network of potential partners from its past co-productions.
“We’re thrilled to open our doors to partners such as Primo, who share our values and our mission to champion original voices in Latin America and now Europe. We are confident that this exciting partnership will create fresh and unexpected opportunities to empower the community of talent at the heart of Rei Pictures,” said Rei Pictures co-founder-producer, Benjamin Domenech.
“We have long admired Rei Pictures’ editorial line and cinematic vision, so when we set out to expand into long-form, they were the natural partner of choice. We are thrilled to support Rei’s growth on the international stage, and foster a unified network of talent across both companies. Together we aspire to build a global powerhouse for bold, original voices in cinema,” said Primo Content co-founder Nicolás Pérez Veiga.
