Ali Lee (李佳芯) and Lai Lok Yi (黎諾懿) spent months filming in Malaysia for their new drama The Exiled <義和>. At a local event, they were greeted with excitement by their fans. Lai Lok Yi shared they were expected to wrap up before September 1, assuming everything goes according to plan.
When asked about their experience filming in Malaysia, Ali reflected, “We’ve visited so many places, some of which you wouldn’t normally see in travel shows. It’s been a real eye-opener to experience a different side of Malaysia.”
Lai Lok Yi, who portrays a triad boss from a fishing village, chimed in, “I’ve mostly been working in more remote locations. Ali had it easier—her scenes are all shot in air-conditioned spots and shopping malls!”
Ali explained that her character handles accounting and management, which contrasts sharply with Lai Lok Yi’s action-packed role with fight scenes. Both agreed the entire cast and crew have gotten a lot more sun than they expected, thanks to all the outdoor filming.
Asked about the biggest challenges on set, particularly with the weather and diet, Ali confessed, “For me, it’s definitely controlling my eating. They’re always shocked at how much I can eat. The food here is so rich and flavorful, it’s hard to resist. Unfortunately, that sometimes leads to breakouts or skin irritation. After a long day of filming, I crave something indulgent. I try not to overdo it if I have wake up early the next morning.”
